Jason Yeager is a 21-year-old Boston-based pianist, composer, and educator from Framingham, MA. He has led and participated in numerous bands and projects, ranging from jazz to classical to funk/rock. Ever since middle school, his focus has been on jazz and improvisation, and the seemingly limitless possibilities these realms of art offer.
Above all, Jason values creative interplay between musicians; in the groups that he has led, collaboration and communication have been core values. Jason's performed throughout the Boston area in such venues as Ryles Jazz Club, the Regattabar, New England Conservatory, Berklee College of Music, The Lily Pad, The Center for the Arts in Natick, and the Amazing Things Arts Center. He's also performed in South Africa with the Milton Academy Advanced Jazz Combos in two different concert tours (2003 and 2005), in New York City at the School for Improvisational Music, and in various clubs in Buenos Aires, Argentina, including the famous "Thelonious" and "El Vesuvio". In addition, Jason has put his music to other good works: Over the past several years, he has performed several concerts benefiting the Diabetes Research Institute at the University of Miami (through the "Jason Fund" established by his grandparents), raising tens of thousands of dollars to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.
Jason's interests are diverse, and extend beyond music: He is currently enrolled in a Double Degree Program at New England Conservatory and Tufts University. He will graduate with a Bachelor of Music (from NEC) in Jazz Piano Performance and Bachelor of Arts (from Tufts) in International Relations. At NEC, Jason is a student of Danilo Perez, Jerry Leake, and Jerry Bergonzi. A 2005 Cum Laude graduate of Milton Academy, Jason was initially coached in jazz by Bob Sinicrope, Kyle Aho, and Dan Loschen. Jason hopes someday to fuse his interests in music and international conflict/social change in order to contribute positively to our world.
In addition to his musical and academic interests, Jason is an avid Boston sports fan. Go Red Sox!
